Faculty and doctoral students will attend the 2024 Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) conference in Portland, Oregon, from October 14-17. ALISE '24, the premier annual gathering of library and information science (LIS) professionals, will focus on this year’s theme, 'The Ethics and Evolution of Truth and Information.’
Attendees will participate in a range of presentations, discussions, and panels related to this theme, including explorations of
- how library and information professionals define, interrogate, and uphold notions of truth,
- the impact of innovations in information creation and dissemination on people and communities, and
- the ethical questions that arise from the rapid adoption of new tools and technologies pertaining to the creation, remixing, and sharing of information.
Related topics include the use of AI technologies and the creation and spread of information and misinformation on social media.
SC&I participants include Professor of Library and Information Science Denise Agosto, Director of the Master of Information Program and Teaching Professor of Library and Information Science Lilia Pavlovsky, Professor of Library and Information Science Marie Radford, Associate Teaching Professor of Library and Information Science Joyce Valenza, and doctoral students Juliana Mestre, Catherine McGowan, Kaitlin Montague, Alexandra Pucciarelli. The keynote speaker is Steve Easterbrook, Ph.D., Director of the School of the Environment and Professor of Computer Science at the University of Toronto.
