The National Communication Association (NCA) will host its 111th Annual Convention from November 20–23, 2025, near Denver, Colorado, with pre-conference sessions on November 19. The theme is “Communicate to Elevate,” and organizers expect over 4,000 scholars, educators, and professionals from around the world to attend research presentations, panel discussions, and networking opportunities.

Rutgers alumna and PR strategist Gulzira Omarova is reshaping how public relations is understood and practiced across Central Asia — aligning local communications with international standards while preserving the region's unique voice.

Caroline Saunders COM'26 said her choice to major in Communication stands proudly as one of the highlights of her college career.

Held on October 22 at The Yard on College Avenue, the event will feature interviews with Communication major alums including television advertising and beauty industry marketing executives, social media influencer marketers, healthcare communication professionals, and other guests.

Marking ICA’s 75th anniversary, this year’s conference centers on the theme “Disrupting and Consolidating Communication Research.” The theme encourages reflection on the evolution of communication studies and the association’s role in shaping its trajectory. Through panels and sessions, participants will explore how the field is adapting to technological advances, social transformation, and institutional challenges.

SC&I Professor Kathryn Greene co-led a workshop on health communication CBPR, which was offered twice during the three-day event. Associate Professor Matthew Matsaganis and Associate Professor Lisa Mikesell presented collaborative based on community partnerships in New Jersey and Greece. Asssociate Professor Maria Venetis contributed with a poster session and served as a reviewer.

“The world needs creative, committed, and responsible journalists and media makers more urgently than ever, and these students are leading the way,” said Chair of the Journalism and Media Studies Department and Professor Lauren Feldman.

During her visit to the MCM class, Carissa Lawson provided insights into how the rise of citizen journalism, social media, and AI are impacting news writing and broadcasting.

“Take every opportunity you have and learn as much as you can,” Schwartz advises current SC&I students. “Your unique experiences will set you apart from other candidates, so try to get experience in any way possible.”
