Program Requirements

Before you can apply to any of SC&I’s three undergraduate majors, you must first meet these requirements:

• Complete 01:355:101 Expository Writing with a grade of C or better.
• Complete at least 15 credits at Rutgers (or have at least 15 transfer credits to Rutgers), with at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
• Complete the appropriate introductory course with a grade of C or better:
  • For Communication: 04:189:101: Introduction to Communication and Information Processes
  • For Information Technology and Informatics: 04:189:103 Information Technology and Informatics
  • For Journalism and Media Studies: 04:189:102 Introduction to Media

We base admission on multiple factors, including but not limited to, your grades in Expository Writing and the appropriate introductory major course and your essay. Meeting the minimum requirements to apply to the major does not guarantee admission to the major.
