Beth Rizzotti earned her Master of Library Science at SC&I in 1991. While a graduate student, she took an internship that developed into a full-time position which in turn led to a decades-long career with her current employer, Lee Hecht Harrison (LHH). Having this experience prompts Beth to advise students to start networking from their very first day at SC&I.

In “What’s at Stake: How the elections will influence our future,” students write about the new political activism of Gen Z;  the Trump campaign's challenges to New Jersey’s mail-in voting program; and about sex assault victims’ uncomfortable choice, between two presidential candidates who have both been accused of sexual misconduct.

Collins, a veteran journalist, had been a part-time lecturer for JMS since 2015. She taught Writing for the Media, a course that introduces both JMS majors and students from across the university to the basics of media writing, and the department’s popular Fashion Journalism course, which she developed.

SC&I faculty member Kaitlin Costello and Ph.D. student Diana Floegel have received the award for their paper examining how people diagnosed with mental health conditions feel about the mental health apps they use, and the critical privacy, ethics, and justice issues surrounding their use.

All of us can be incredibly proud of the response and performance of the School of Communication and Information over the past seven months during the coronavirus pandemic. With very little notice last spring, our full- and part-time faculty and teaching assistants transitioned campus classes to remote learning and our staff redesigned all operations to work remotely. In every area of the school people demonstrated tremendous dedication and creativity to assure the teaching, research, and work of the school would continue as smoothly as possible.

Media outlets, political leaders should set public expectations early for a shift in vote counts

In two recent papers, SC&I faculty member E.E. Lawrence explores the reasons it is critical to develop a new definition for diverse books, offers a new definition, and explains why books defined as diverse must “advance informational justice for oppressed persons in particular.”

Report findings include the highest level of support is for direct cash payments (78%), followed by aid to hospitals (63%), aid to K-12 schools and small businesses loans (57% each), and extended unemployment insurance (53%).
