How to Apply to the Communication Major

Admission to the Communication major is selective. Before you can apply, you must first meet these requirements:

  • Complete College Writing (01:355:101), College Writing Extended (01:355:104), or an equivalent course with a grade of C or better.
  • Complete at least 15 credits at Rutgers (or have at least 15 transfer credits to Rutgers) with at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
  • Complete the introductory COM major course: 04:189:101 Introduction to Communication and Information Processes with a grade of C or better.

The 36 credits of coursework for a Communication major include six courses (18 credits) in core areas and six courses (18 credits) in your chosen specialization.

How to Declare a SC&I Minor

SC&I offers three minors:

After you’ve completed the minor course requirement with a grade of C or better and confirmed the specific requirements for your academic program, you may declare the SC&I minor by following the appropriate steps.

SAS students: Log in to SAS myMajor

SEBS students: Log in to SEBS myMajor

MGSA students: Log in to MGSA myMajor

Students of other Rutgers colleges (Business, Engineering, Mason Gross, Nursing, etc.)

Use the DCIM Minor Declaration Form and submit it to SC&I Student Services, SC&I Building, Room 214, at 4 Huntington Street in New Brunswick.
